A proper post...

Me at the beach by a golf course.
My feet in what I think is the North Sea.

Hello all! Today I am going to write a proper post and hopefully now that school has started I will be able to keep up with this thing more regularly. I am finally settled in, though my room is already untidy. I only have classes twice a week which I think will probably end up getting very very boring for me. I am taking a class on Globalization (though they spell it globalisation which is soooo weird). And a class on Democracy. I wanted to take more classes but they wont let me so I think I'll end up being very bored.  I made my first trip out of St. Andrews a couple days ago to go to a town called Dundee.

It was really funny everyone was telling me that Dundee was really shady and a horrible place to live and what not but it was clean and there was really little poverty. Just everyone wasn't as privlidged as people in St. Andrews. Everyone had talked about it like it was so horrible which is really funny. I don't think horrible in the UK and horrible in San Francisco really mean the same thing. I just wanted to be like "You want to see horrible? You should go check out the Tenderloin in San Francisco....". Next time I go back, which I undoubtedly will since they have shopping there, I will take pictures and send them to all of you so you can see how unhorrible it really is. The only thing I noticed is that there was A TON of young pregnancy.

I really like Scotland though I have to say it is sooo cold and a little preoccupied with things like posh vs. non-posh. There is a lot of nature to... like spiders. Which really aren't my thing. Things I miss:
* In and Out Burger
*Trader Joes
*My Bed
*REAL Burritos
*The Sun

Pounds still feel like monopoly money to me. And I am acutely aware of how expensive things are here. Its kind of hard to be here right now and watch about the economic situation at home and hear it on the BBC. Its also hard to be here when the cub
s are sooo close to their first pendant.

The food here is not bad if a little bland, but at least they have BOMB Indian food. Even the dinning hall makes better Indian food then we get in the states. Everyone is super in love with fries which I have to say are pretty good here. I cooked dinner yesterday for a couple friends and I have to say that without a doubt it was the worst meal I think I have ever cooked, it was a little embarrassing but at least everyone was super appreciative for it.

Yesterday was the society fair. I joined the International Relations Society and the International Politics Society. They had so many more societies then USF, like the Beer Society, or the Rave Society... there was literally like millions of them.

Love and Miss you all.

oh dear god...

I've lost my passport already.

Dont worry mom I found it at the royal bank of scotland.

But I am a bloody idiot. You should have never let me come. What if I hadn't found it? Then I could never come back to the states. I'm soooo stupid. I have already lost my keys, blown my electricity and lost my passport. I'm a mess.  By the way if your reading this mom I would really like to converse on skype because I miss you or something.

My room

This is the view from my love room..... nature.

This is my actual room (though I have unpacked now).

This is my gin-normous bed, awesome.

So my dorm is kind of by the Old Course Hotel which I would call really posh. Its soo funny though, here people think its posh to stay somewhere old and where like royalty has stayed but in America it would be much more "posh" to have your own big room with everything new. I've learned some important lessons like your not really suppose to drink the water from out of the faucet like you are in California. I took a lot of pictures of the streets yesterday like a typical American. Its really sunny and nice outside today which everyone keeps telling me is really abnormal. I get T.V. in my room which I thought I was suppose to pay for but apparently not so I hope I am not watching T.V. illegally which they might deport me for...

Welcome to SCOTLAND Baby!

So I made it! I am currently sitting in my room in New Hall in St. Andrews Scotland! Very exciting. I met the nicest girl in the airport in Manchester who was American and also going to St. Andrews. She introduced herself and we wound up on the same flight to Edinburgh. (She will thus forth be referred to as Brynn). Brynn was super nice and let me stay with her the night in Edinburgh so that I didn’t have to travel a ton to get to St. Andrews and could just take the new student shuttle to St. Andrews with her the next day (I am so glad I ran into her). While we were waiting in line to get are keys into the dorm we both met the nicest girl name Connie who is from England. If it wasn’t for Connie I would probably still be standing in the entrance hall scratching my head. She literally has shown me everything (sooo greatful). She took me all around the shops today and I spent a load of money getting things like shampoo and a cell phone. Its weird getting use to things here like…. The fact that they give you alcohol as a way to meet people in the dorms. First of all I was like whoa I can drink, and then its like hey here is the school giving you wine and drinks and stuff in your hall which was sooooo  different. I’m getting use to some of the lingo though. Freshman are not called freshman, they are called freshers. Tonight we went out after the mixer to the Union w

hich is basically like a big place to met students where they can dance and get drinks. I’ll let you more in on all the details later but I just wanted to say that I am here and that I love and miss you guys and I am already having a fab time!

Oh and by the way I have already lost me keys and had to have them replaced and blown out the electricity in my room…… yeaaaaaahhhhhhhhh…….

And I'm on my way....

Hello to all! It is official, I am now on my way to St. Andrews, Scotland right now.... as I am currently sitting in the Sacramento Airport waiting for my flight to Chicago. I board in about 20 minutes.  Isn't this whole internet access every where thing cool?  So Bon Voyage to all, I love you  and will miss you!  I'll let you all know when I get situated in Scotland though it will probably be in two days or so.

Today,

I started packing.

And I bought a North Face Jacket. Cliché I know but they are just so damn warm.

As much as I know that I am gonna miss my family and friends and sunny ol' California, I'm ready to go. T minus 5 days and counting...

Current Obsession: Not over packing & Buying multiple pairs of jeans.

Food for Thought: If you want a good quick book to read you should read Persopolis by Marhane Satrapi. I'm not a graphic novel girl but this memoir about growing up in Iran is really, really good.

One week from today till...

I land in this beautiful place.... and then promptly get lost trying to find my way to St. Andrews. But thats ok because it will be a "Adventure"...

Arrhhhh I really need to start getting it together with this whole packing thing.

Ps. Edinburgh photo taken by yours truely.

I miss my girlies already...

As my impending grand adventure grows closer (I leave a week from tomorrow) I realize how much I still have to do. (And the fact that I seriously should start dancing again or going to the gym because this week I have been treated to so many dinners and lunches that even Kate Moss would put on a couple pounds in the badoink-e-doink). I miss my girlies so very very much, and I REALLY wish I had time to drive back to the city and see all of you and say good bye. Thank god I don't have to do anything like buy sheets or get a fridge... and this whole different plug thing? Very, very confusing. I mean why cant we all just use the same plug? Seems extremely stupid to me.

T Minus 13 Days And Counting...

Hey Guys,

Sooo I leave in 13 days. And I have so much freakin crap to finish. Bahhh. I leave September 18th and I fly from Sac to Chicago O'Hare the from O'Hare to Manchester and finally from Manchester to Edinburgh. Bahhh then I arrive in Scotland with no where to stay so I had to book a hostel. Hostel should be interesting... never done one before but this grand adventure should start with something new. Now I'm just trying to fit everything in that I will miss aka my favorite Thai restaurant, etc.
